General

If a Viper project with type management enabled has no vision type yet, for example a new project created from the vision project template, Viper starts the New vision configuration wizard when the project is loaded. In six steps it guides you through everything a working image processing job needs.

The steps are listed on the left, the current step is highlighted. Next and Back move between the steps. Next is only enabled when the input of the current step is valid.

Until Finish, everything is only a draft. The type, job, tool group, image source and, if selected, the station are created only when you click Finish. The only exception is the image source object: it is created in the Image source settings step so that its settings can be shown there. Cancel discards the whole draft; nothing is left behind.

Note

Up to Viper 8.0.5 this was done in three separate dialogs (create type, job parameters, image source). The result is the same.

Further types are created in the type management.

Vision type

Name and ID of the new vision type. The name is used as a folder name. If it contains characters that are not allowed in folder names, the wizard suggests a valid name. The ID is a whole number from 0. The Description is optional and is shown in the load dialog.

All of this can be changed later in the type management, where a type image can also be added.

Job

Job name and Tool group name of the first job and its tool group. Each job needs at least one tool group it can run. Job type and Display type are selected here as well.

Image source

Image source type lists all image sources that are currently available; which ones depends on the installed image source plugins. If the hardware for the image source is not present, it can be simulated with Simulate all cameras. This setting applies to all cameras of this Viper instance.

Image source settings

This step shows the settings of the selected image source, in the example a file-based image source (BMP). The image source object is created when you move to this step. Depending on the image source (e.g. cameras that search the network) this can take a few seconds. If you then select a different image source type or cancel the wizard, the object is discarded again.

Station

Optionally, a vision station can be created and linked to the job. Together with the station, a RAM I/O hardware is created with input and output data, the handshake bits and the command interface variables. With None, no station is created.

If the project already has a station of this type, the wizard points this out. A second station of the same type cannot be created.

Summary

The summary shows what will be created when you click Finish. Back lets you still change your input.

After Finish, the job is loaded and can be run.
